Harney County Fair

The Harney County Fair dates back to 1924 when the first such event was held.  Each year the County Fair is held the week after Labor Day.  Updated information for the 2010 Harney County Fair is coming soon.  This is a full blown event with the County Fair, NPRA Rodeo, ParaMutual Horse Racing, and amusement rides.  Residents gather from all around Harney County for the week to show their 4H animals and participate in innumerable events at this big event.  Many schools even take the week off as their students participate in the 4H judged events. 2010 FAIR MANAGER’S MESSAGE

WOO-HOO EVERYBODY! Welcome to the 86th Harney County Fair, Rodeo, and Racemeet on the dates of September 7-12, 2010, right here in the land of sunshine in Burns, Oregon. This event will be another year of memory making, one that you will be sure and remember for a lifetime!

The Theme for this year is “Homegrown, Handmade, and Ranch Fresh”. This theme is very appropriate for Harney County, because we know how to survive using the skills we have learned from our fore fathers through hard work, perseverance, and enjoyment. This theme should make it easy for everyone to use in all of their decorating endeavors!

All of your favorite events will again be showcased around the Fairgrounds. Those events will be; 4H Livestock Shows, FFA Livestock Shows, 4H Exhibits, FFA Exhibits, Open Class Exhibits, Paradise Amusements Carnival, a Parade, 3 days of Rodeo, Stockhorse Futurity, Calf Branding Competition, Kids Playday, 3 days of Horse Racing, 5 days of Entertainment, Vendors, Booths, and much, much more!

Get ready for 3 days of Horse Racing! Yes, that is right! We will have four horse races on Friday starting at 4:00 PM. This will coincide with the Big Loop Horse Roping and be just before the Friday night Ranch Rodeo. This will be a big evening at the Fairgrounds! On Saturday and Sunday beginning at noon each day will be more horse racing with a total of 22 horse races for the weekend. Yes, there will be pari-mutual wagering all three days during the horse racing!

Back by popular demand on the US Bank Stage this year will be “Adam the Great” for his third appearance in a row here at the Harney County Fair, Rodeo, and Racemeet. Adam will dazzle you with his many magic tricks. Joining Adam for their second appearance here in Burns will be the “Hot Shot Tap Dancers” who will impress you with their energy and talent. They are appearing on the hit TV Show “America’s Got Talent” and should be cleared by Fair time to appear here in Burns. Country singer “Marty Davis”, who has traveled all over the United States entertaining people will be here for the second time, and the comedy hypnotist “Michael Mezmer: America’s Award Winning Comedic Hypnotist”, will put you in a relaxed state of mind for all others to enjoy your antics. Michael has appeared at the Harney County Fair three other times, the last time in 2005. The local Hi-Desert Fiddlers and the Johnson Brothers along with other local talent will also appear on the US Bank Stage.

Please do not forget the 12th Annual Talent Show that will take place on the evening of September 9. This event will showcase all of our County’s talent with a $400 for 1st place, $240 for 2nd place, and $160 for 3rd place. This event has been a big hit with the fans filling up the US Bank Stage entertainment area! The winners of our Talent Show for 2009, Rachel Smith and Winnston 6, will have already participated in the State Fair Talent Show before the Harney County Fair, and will sing for you during the Talent Show.

Do you like to Rodeo? Once again B Bar D Rodeo Stock will be back for a slack performance at 9:00 AM Saturday, September 11, and two NPRA/ICA rodeo performances at 1:00 PM each day Saturday and Sunday, September 11 & 12. This year the Burns Rodeo will kick start the 2011 NPRA season for cowboys and cowgirls to get a good start on the new season.

Exhibits, exhibits, and more exhibits will be showcased in the Memorial Building, Exhibit Building, and the 4H Building. This is your chance to win premium money for entering the prize flower, the best cucumber, the tastiest cake, or a prize quilt, among many hundreds of other exhibits for you to show off your talents. Right here is where a Fair began, with people coming together for the fall feast, showing off their wares, celebrating the harvest, to socialize, to see old friends, and to compete against one another. I will bet that all other Fair events started as people talked right there with one another.

In the Livestock Barn area you can watch all of the animals being shown and judged. Don’t forget to go to the Buyers BBQ and the Livestock Auction on Saturday evening, September 11.

Paradise Amusements will open the Carnival on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM, and be open everyday through Sunday. Be sure to get your “POP” pay one price coupon at the presale outlets for $18 versus $26 for onsite sales.  Daily and season passes for Fair admission can also be purchased at the presale outlets. Thanks a lot to Figaro’s Pizza, NAPA, Broadway Deli, Ag & Auto, Kings, Big R, and Tumbleweed Floral for helping us out with all of the presales.

So, mark your calendars now for September 7-12, 2010. Please make plans to visit the hi-desert country if you already do not live here. You will have more fun than you will ever imagine!!
