Harney County Government website. This site is dedicated to
providing the public the best information possible in detailing the many
products and services of the Harney County Government. Each
department is represented as well as a wide variety of pertinent links. Please let us
know if there is something that you cannot find. Updates are made
often and checking back from time to time is advisable. Harney County is located in southeastern Oregon and is
the largest county in the State of Oregon. The County has a
diverse landscape with forests, sagebrush lakes, streams desert and
mountains. Harney County is open for business, travel,
exploration, outdoor adventure, and recreation. We hope your stay

CURRENT EVENTS:
The filing deadline for nonaffiliated candidates to file for the General Election is August 24th, 2010, at 5:00 p.m., in this case, for the office of County Commissioner. To qualify as a nonaffiliated candidate for a Partisan office, one must have been registered as a nonaffiliated voter 180 days before the filing deadline which would have been on or before February 25, 2010.
The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run for Councilpersons in Both Burns and Hines is also August 24th. Candidates for Councilpersons may pick up filing forms and petitions at the Burns City Hall and/or Hines City Hall. Petitions for candidacy for Burns City Council require 10 signatures, and Hines Common Council require 6 signatures. Any registered voter in their respective city is eligible to sign petitions.
The last day to register for the General Election is October 12, 2010. Ballots will be mailed on October 15, 2010 The General Election will be November 2, 2010. If you have changed either your residence or mailing address, you must update your registration in order to vote in the General Election. Voters can do so on line at www.oregonvotes.org or in the county clerk’s office.
